The pass, on a screen. No printer needed.

Orders reach the kitchen the moment they are placed — from a waiter's phone, the counter till or a call-centre desk. The cook ticks each dish as it is plated, and the person who punched it is told with a sound. Every time is recorded: sent, ready, collected.

One order, end to end

From the table to the pass, and back out again

Nothing here is typed twice and nothing is timed by hand. Each step is the same order moving, and each one leaves a time on the card.

Somebody punches it

A waiter at the table on their own phone, a cashier on the counter till, or an agent at a call-centre desk. All three produce the same order.

The branch accepts it

An order from a waiter or the phone lands on every till in the branch with a banner and an alarm. The kitchen is told when somebody presses Accept — printing into an empty kitchen at 2am tells nobody anything.

The card reaches the kitchen

On the screen, on the roll, or both. Oldest first, because a pass works the queue in the order it arrived. Amber after ten minutes, red after twenty — both are yours to set, per branch.

A dish is ticked ready

On a dine-in card each dish has its own tick, so the soup goes out while it is hot. Ticking the last one closes the card by itself.

The floor is told

A green Ready to collect strip on the waiter's screen and on the till that rang it, with a chime. On the Android app, a notification and a buzz that reaches a pocket.

The tap is the pickup

Clearing the notice from your screen is what tells the kitchen somebody came. There is no second button to press all evening.

The kitchen sees what is still standing

A ready dish waits in AT THE PASS until it is collected, and turns amber if nobody comes. Food dying under a lamp becomes something the kitchen can see.

The bill is settled at the counter

By recalling the table, exactly as before. The pass has nothing to do with the money, and a cook can neither price nor take a payment.

Two switches, not one

The screen does not depend on the printer

Plenty of systems bolt a display onto the printing they already had, so turning the paper off turns the screen off with it. In Sellify they are two independent switches on the branch — have either, both, or neither.

Screen only

No kitchen printer anywhere, no roll to buy, no jam at eight o’clock on a Friday. The board is the whole thing.

Paper only

Exactly the kitchen you have today. Nothing changes and nothing new has to be turned on.

Both

A slip for the box and a card on the wall, read off the same record — so the screen and the roll can never say two different things.

And if a branch has neither turned on, the board says so on the page and names the switch that is off — rather than sitting empty through a busy service looking like a quiet night.

Nothing is typed by hand. The card itself carries who did what, and when.

Sent to the kitchen

The moment the cooks were asked for this card — and for a sale rung on a till with no connection, the moment it was actually rung, not the moment it uploaded.

Ready — time and person

Which kitchen login ticked the dish, and at what time. Two cooks reaching for the same card is fine: the first tap is the one that counts.

Collected — time and person

Who tapped the plate off their screen, and when. That is the only way the pass knows what is still standing there.

Between them: how long the kitchen took and how long the plate stood at the pass before anybody came for it. The figures are recorded on every card today and read on the board; a report that adds them up across a week is on the way rather than shipped.

Built for a pass, not for a dashboard

Oldest first, never by table

A table that ordered at seven is not served after one that ordered at eight.

Colours are time, not importance

Amber, then red, on thresholds you set per branch — a pizza oven and a sandwich counter do not agree about what slow is.

A cancellation is on the board

It reads as a STOP rather than a job. Somebody has to see it and take the dish off, which is the same reason it comes out of the printer.

Additions say ADDED TO ORDER

Add a drink to a table already cooking and only the drink appears, so nobody starts the pizza again.

A thumb on the wrong card

Undo puts it back, and takes its dishes off the pass with it. Bounded to today, so yesterday cannot be reopened tonight.

Stations, if you work that way

Grill, bar, cold station — each gets its own cards and its own chips across the top of the board.

Never any prices

A kitchen card with prices on it is a receipt somebody hands a customer by mistake.

Every detail of the dish

The variant, every option under the group it was chosen from, every deal component, and the line’s note.

A cashier cannot open it

The till already tells them what they rang, and a counter reading the kitchen queue is a counter promising a time nobody agreed to.

Kitchen display, answered

Do I need a kitchen printer to use the kitchen display?

No. The screen and the printer are two separate switches in Sellify. A kitchen that works off a display turns the paper off entirely and keeps its board, and a kitchen that wants both turns both on.

What device does the kitchen screen run on?

Any browser. A cheap Android tablet on the wall, an old laptop, or the back-office PC. There is nothing to install, no pairing code and no device to approve — a kitchen screen is not a till, so it does not count against the number of tills your plan includes.

Can the cook mark one dish ready instead of the whole order?

Yes, on a dine-in table. A soup is ready before a biryani, so every dish on a dine-in card carries its own tick and goes out while it is hot. Ticking the last dish closes the card by itself. A takeaway and a delivery leave in one bag, so those stay one tick.

How does the waiter know a dish is ready?

A green Ready to collect strip appears on the waiter’s screen and on the till that rang the order, with a chime. On the Sellify Android app it is a real notification with a buzz, on its own channel, so it reaches a phone in an apron pocket.

Does Sellify record how long the kitchen took?

Yes. Every card carries the moment it was sent to the kitchen, the moment each dish was ticked ready and by whom, and the moment somebody collected it and who. Those two gaps are how long the kitchen took and how long the plate stood at the pass.

Does the kitchen display work without internet?

No, and that is deliberate rather than a gap. The board is the live state of a room full of people, read off the server by every screen in it. The till itself keeps selling offline and prints its own kitchen slips; the board catches up when the connection does.

Can I run different screens for the grill and the bar?

Yes. Set your kitchen to work by department and each station gets its own cards, with a row of station chips across the top of the board to narrow to one of them.
