Setting up
Half and half
Menu: Catalog → Variant options (which sizes) · Catalog → Products (which flavours) · Sell → POS and the Sellify app (selling one) Who: the owner and the branch manager set it up; a cashier and a waiter sell it
A half and half pizza is two flavours on one base: one half Chicken Tikka, the other half Fajita. Sellify sells it as one pizza, prices it from the two flavours, takes each flavour's toppings off the shelf at half, and counts each flavour as half a pizza in the reports.
Half and half is for restaurants. A shop that does not run a kitchen is not shown any of it.
Setting it up
You decide two things, once.
Which sizes can be split. Open Catalog → Variant options and edit your Size option. Each value has a Half & half switch beside it. Turn it on for the sizes you sell half and half — for example 12, 15 and 20 inch — and leave it off for the small ones.
Which flavours can be a half. Every flavour can be a half to begin with. Open a pizza under Catalog → Products and turn Can be a half off for any flavour that cannot be split — a pizza whose topping covers the whole base, say.
That is all. There is no separate "half and half" product and no separate recipe: each half uses its own flavour's recipe, at half.
Two flavours can be paired when they are:
- in the same category (two pizzas, never a pizza and a burger);
- made in the same crust and the same size — both halves share one base;
- both allowed to be a half, on a size you switched on.
Selling one
On the POS (and the Sellify app on Android and Windows), tap a pizza and choose its crust and size as usual. If that size can be split, a Half & half row appears underneath:
- Whole pizza — the ordinary pizza, already selected;
- ½ Fajita, ½ Chicken Tikka, … — every other flavour that can share this base.
Tap the other flavour and add it. The cart shows one line, Half & Half · Hand Tossed · 12 inch, with ½ Hot Chicken Muglai and ½ Fajita underneath.
Choosing the same flavour for both halves is simply that pizza, whole.
Options such as extra cheese go on the whole pizza, charged once. Only the options both flavours offer are shown. (A different extra topping on each half is coming later.)
What it costs
Each half is half of its own flavour's price at that crust and size, and the pizza is rounded to the nearest rupee:
| Price at 12 inch | |
|---|---|
| Hot Chicken Muglai | Rs 1,900 |
| Garden Supreme | Rs 1,999 |
| Half & half | (1,900 + 1,999) ÷ 2 = 1,949.50 → Rs 1,950 |
If your shop charges the same for every flavour at a size, a half and half simply costs that price.
Inside a deal
A deal that asks for one pizza can take a half and half too. After you pick the pizza, the same Half & half row appears, offering the deal's own other pizzas. The upgrade charge is half of each flavour's own upgrade: a flavour that adds Rs 101 paired with one that adds nothing comes to Rs 51.
On paper
The kitchen slip and the receipt print each half under the size:
1 x HALF & HALF
Hand Tossed - 12 inch
1/2 Hot Chicken Muglai
1/2 Fajita
A receipt printer cannot print the ½ sign, so the paper says 1/2. The screens say ½.
In the reports
Sales by product gives half and half its own three columns:
- Half & half · halves — how many halves of this flavour went out;
- Half & half · pizzas — the same, counted as half a pizza each;
- Half & half · sales — this flavour's share of what those pizzas were charged. Each half takes its share by its own price: at Rs 1,950 for Muglai (1,900) and Garden Supreme (1,999), Muglai's half earns 1,900 / 3,899 of it and Garden Supreme's the rest.
A sentence at the top of the report says so, on the screen and in the export.
The food cost (PCA) report costs each half on its own flavour's recipe, at half, under that flavour's own row — a half and half never appears as a dish of its own.
Common mistakes
- "The Half & half row does not appear." The size is not switched on under Variant options, the flavour has Can be a half off, or no other flavour in the same category is made in that exact crust and size.
- "I want half Pan and half Thin Crust." Both halves share one base, so the crust and the size are chosen once for the whole pizza.
